Dear Editor,
Re: WalMart owned Pali coming to town. Just reading your
latest edition....it came as quite a surprise and hugely disappointing
that it is Walmart that is bringing the grocery store to your community....
This will mean the end to all of those wonderful little businesses that
people have created to sustain themselves. i.e.. the tortilla lady.
There are communities all over the US and in Canada who have fought
to keep Walmart out! Understandably they do create jobs and also provide
very cheap stuff (from China) all at the expense of the community that
is not always aware they are making one of the richest companies richer.
My knowledge is limited but it is certainly biased as you can tell....
it angers me to know that they not only have raped the small communities
of North America of their "Main Streets" forcing people to
drive to the outskirts of town to get the cheap deals. Now they are
preying on the poor of Central America. J.K., Canada
Del Sur Editor: In fairness to Pali, its not quite the same as
the huge WalMart stores you would know in Canada (I am Canadian and
witnessed what you talk about) It’s a reasonably sized grocery
store that will have to compete with the local market and other grocery
stores here in town. There is one up the road in Rivas and the market
there survives along with all of the other suppliers. There are some
who think it will actually help keep prices in check at some of the
other stores. Thanks for your interest. Our readers enjoy hearing opinions
