Thousands attend Earth Fair BY KELVIN MARSHALL San Juan Del Sur played host to the sixth annual Nicaragua National Earth Fair, this year focused on water, tourism and climate change. The three-day conference was officially opened by the Vice President of the Republic of Nicaragua, Jaime Morales Carazo, Eduardo Holmann, Mayor of San Juan Del Sur, and Edwin Castro, President of the National Earth Fair. As well as three days of scheduled meetings, forums, and discussions, about 80 promotional booths filled the Central Civic Centre and surrounding grounds displaying a variety of home grown products and services. This long weekend fair which ran from Saturday 16th to Monday 18th June also provided an excellent boost for the local economy with thousands of visitors and participants staying in town to enjoy all of the side events that were part of the fair. The Alcaldia did a great job of preparing the Civic Centre which is becoming a very useful multi use event facility. |
El Oro Wins Gold The first in what is hoped will be a series of community clean up events in other communities was a huge success. On Sunday the 10th of June, 180 people showed up to pick up garbage in and around the community of El Oro.
