continued from san juan del sur HOME Starting August 2nd 2007, Spirit Airlines will provide 3 weekly Airbus A319 nonstop flights from Fort Lauderdale to Managua. They plan on increasing this to a daily service on November 15th 2007. "We are excited to give Nicaraguans a low fare alternative to travel between Managua and the U.S.," said Barry Biffle, Spirit's Chief Marketing Officer. "As the economic center of Nicaragua, Managua is a growing market that will benefit from Spirit's ultra low fares as both leisure and business travelers will be able to travel more frequently." Aeroméxico began direct flights between Nicaragua and Mexico on June 4th 2007. They plan to start with two weekly flights between Mexico City and Managua, increasing to five weekly flights in the next months. Aeromexico will be using new generation Boeing 737 airplanes. The fact that they chose Nicaragua as their first Central America expansion point has been greeted with enthusiasm from the FSLN Government of Nicaragua. The Mexican Government announced that it will grant 5 year visas to Nicaraguan businessmen. A decision described by Daniel Ortega as “Good news for tourism and trade between the two countries.”
