El Oro Limpio

The local community came up with the idea and the following organizations and businesses will be helping.

The Fire Department of San Juan
The National Police of Nicaragua
MARENA (Ministry of Environment)

Nicaragua-Realty S.A.

Volunteers are being asked to meet at 8am on Sunday the 10th of June 2007at the Church at the entrance of El Oro. (Opposite the new Pre-School). The community would like to clean as much of the area as possible. This includes some private property and river beds. They also want to use this as an opportunity to educate local residents on the proper disposal of trash.

Each volunteer will receive a garbage bag, when the volunteer deposits the filled bag at the garbage truck, he/she will receive a numbered ticket. The volunteer will then receive a new bag and the process is repeated. The more bags collected the more chances to win. The clean up will finish at the entrance to El Oro.

Following the clean up, a celebration and the drawing for prizes will take place. The prizes include a Bicycle, T-Shirts and Food vouchers from various restaurants and other prizes. Food, drinks and music will be provided for the participants of the clean up at the celebration. The Clean-up Events will move from Barrio to Barrio over the course of a year.
