After weeks of delicate negotiations, we can now report that all the wild animals from a private collection just south of SJDS have been relocated or released from their less than ideal conditions.

Jim Dinsmore, Henri Avendaño, Stuart and Emma of Stones and Waves Veterinary Clinic & Wildlife Center (Hotel Pelican Eyes…Piedras y Olas) along with Mardi & Robin of Properties and Investments (Mastodon) were instrumental in convincing the property owner to allow the animals their freedom.

A few weeks ago, I accompanied them on their first inspection which was a pretty sad day. I may not be the biggest animal lover in the world but I was shocked at the confined and inadequate conditions. Enough said, now the good news.

The next day Jim returned with enough supplies to give them what must have been the animal version of Thanksgiving and Xmas Dinner all in one day. They chowed down on fruits and veggies which disguised the vitamins minerals and medicine that were mixed in them.

And following a hearty meal, what did they do? Pretty much the same as we would, rolled over and had a long nap!

Jim was able to continue his treatment of the animals until on Friday 18th May we returned for the big rescue day. Transportation was provided by Big Wave Daves who donated “The Beast”, (his aptly named two ton truck) for the move.

The property owner had already relocated several exotic birds (Green Parrots and Macaws) leaving 2 Blue Wing Teal, 1 Black Wing Whistling Duck, 2 Pacas, 1 Agouti, 2 Cotis, 2 Spider Monkeys and two Blue Fox Kits to be rescued.

All animals that could be released were taken to a farm/wildlife location and the others were housed by Stones and Waves until they too can be released into the wild or re located.
