continued from san juan del sur HOME The Rainy Season is upon us and with the rains come the ticks (garapatas), field mice and the wood louse. During this period, Ticks, Mice and Lice become a severe problem outside our homes, in out gardens and in some cases inside our homes, businesses, kitchens and storage areas. These creatures are a real nuisance and they pose various health risks to us and our pets. For humans, Lymes Disease can result in Kidney and Liver failure and every effort should be made to insure you are not bitten by a tick. Babesia poses a serious health risk to dogs. Ticks are a host to a blood-borne parasite that is transmitted to another animal when the tick bites it. In Nicaragua, Babesia kills many animals large and small. There are approximately twenty-six species of ticks and lice in Nicaragua. Of these some 70% carry Lymes Disease and/or Babesia. Additional viruses such as Hanta Virus are carried and vectored by mice. People exposed through coming into contact with their urine (wet or dried). STONES & WAVES VETRINARY CLINIC provides area specific “Environmentally Friendly” chemical control measures for all in-house areas, pet areas, gardens, general storage areas, restaurants, kitchens and food storage bodegas. Treatment costs are dependant on the size of the area to be treated. Contact Jim Dinsmore at 812-0511 or
