Disabled man makes the dive of a lifetime

San Juan resident, usually confined to a wheelchair, has SCUBA adventure off Corn Island.

Following nine swimming pool session at Pelican Eyes…Piedras y Olas, Kiel, together with Sister Kim and several friends travelled overland to Rama where they embarked upon Ferry Nikolas to Corn Island.

This journey takes about 32 hours and is somewhat less than comfortable. Despite being tired from the journey, Kiel’s team was ready to go diving.

Kiel made three dives during the weekend; all shore entries, with the first 2 at an old steel wreck just 40 meters off shore.

The 3rd and most exciting dive took place early Sunday morning on a Coral reef 400 meters off shore and was 55 minutes in length where a depth of 25 feet was achieved.

Kiel’s Sister Kim completed her Open Water rating and joined Kiel on his third dive. Kiel will be pursing his new passion and will be diving in the Pacific at Nick's Bay and again in Laguna de Apoyo later this month.
