The Last Night of The Iguana? The Bar Iguana closed after Semana Santa for major renovations that will take about three months to complete. The plans show a two level bar restaurant building with a covered second floor bar offering views of the beach and town. The new construction is well under way. New Restaurant in the works. The Soda situated opposite Arena Caliente is currently under a major re-fit and should be open sometime later in May as a Spanish Tapas Bar. In Spain, Tapas traditionally accompany a pre lunch or dinner drink, However more recently they have become popular as a “combination” main meal that the customer can piece together to his/her liking. Finca Caballo Pinto Denny at Finca Caballo Pinto recently imported three registered American Paint Horses from Texas to add to his string of Nicaraguan mountain horses here in San Juan del Sur. Denny reports that these beautiful paint horses have been bred and trained to work cattle and are out of top cutting horse blood lines in Texas. One of the horses (pictured below) is a 9-year old stallion who is homozygous for the tobiano paint gene. That means that whatever mare he is bred to will produce a paint horse whether she is a paint or not. Denny intends to breed the stallion to his own mares and hopes to interest other horse owners in Nicaragua to breed to him. He believes that the stallion could make a significant contribution to improving the quality of horses in Nicaragua.
