Community Events and Tid Bits Happy Birthday and Bon Voyage Trudy The new “Bistro Canoa” at Pelican Eyes… Piedras y Olas was the perfect setting for a birthday and farewell party for Trudy Gould. Pictured above is the birthday girl herself. Trudy celebrated her 89th birthday surrounded by all her local friends. She has spent four winters here in San Juan Del Sur. Trudy has now returned to the US to spend time with family. Ray & Donna Jackson
Photo: Properties & Investments Ray recently celebrated his 70th birthday (hard to believe) at Colibri Restaurant. What he wasn’t expecting was the present that came by way of a phone call at 10:30pm. He had just become a grandfather again, but this one was his first granddaughter. Congratulations Ray. Book Talk: The Nicaraguan Collection at Gato Negro We all owe it to ourselves to learn as much about Nicaragua as possible. First, we should be knowledgeable while living or visiting here, in order to be more sensitive to the culture. Second, because it is vital to becoming a positive member of the local community. El Gato Negro Bookstore/Coffee shop possesses possibly the most complete collection of books on Nicaraguan history and politics anywhere on the planet. We have over 250 titles, with the rarest dating back to 1898. We recommend three titles, which will help increase one’s knowledge of Nicaragua. “The Blood of Brothers”, by Stephen Kinzer; “The Country Under my Skin”, by Giaconda Belli (available in Spanish); and “Where is Nicaragua”, by Peter Davis. If you have already read these great books, we can suggest many others within our collection, or search for any we may not have in stock. Rob and Kelly Thomas Back to San Juan Del Sur News home
