Surfer revived by local veterinarian The ocean swell that hit the coast mid-March nearly claimed the life of one tourist who got caught up in a rip tide or undercurrent at Playa Maderas just North of San Juan Del Sur. He was in big trouble, it appeared he was not conscious and was getting thrown against the rocks.
When he arrived on the scene, the person was out of the water, on the beach but not breathing. It was estimated that he had not been breathing for several minutes. Jim, (not only an experienced Veterinarian, but a qualified Emergency Room Nurse) immediately went to work with CPR on the patient and managed to get him breathing. The unconscious man was rushed to Managua and on the way Jim used CPR once again when the patient stopped breathing. The last hospital report was that the patient was in a stable condition. High Five Jim! And all of those who helped out.

The biggest swell of the season so far hit the surf beaches North and South of SJDS. Surfing was only for the experienced and those with long boards. The brave and the experienced headed out to their “secret spots” to enjoy the thrill of the ride. Rumor has it that even “Shaggy” was tested! The swell was believed to be from a storm off the coast of New Zealand that made it all the way over the Pacific Ocean to the West Coast of Central America. |
