A group of developers from San Juan del Sur met with the Mayor and the
Rivas Police Chief to discuss implementing a Proactive Security Plan
to supplement the existing policing of the Municipality. In brief, the
four year plan will require a cash injection of a little over one hundred
thousand dollars US each year.
Following a presentation of the operational details by Carlos A. Espinosa
G., the Rivas Police Chief and Mayor Eduardo Holmann who presented the
budget for the plan, it was very much down to business. This meeting
was all action.
Nobody dwelled on the reasons for the plan and within the hour, US$50,000
had been “put on the table” by the developers at the meeting,
with a commitment to collect the other 50% for the first year within
a matter of weeks.
Sergio D. Corrales, a lawyer with Garcia Bodan, made recommendations
as to measures that could be taken that would improve the rate of successful
prosecutions. Something that the group felt was lacking at the present
time.
It was agreed that a separate bank account would be set up to handle
the donations collected and it would be administered by the authorities
as well as representatives of the sponsors.
As a result, The Municipality of San Juan del Sur will have an additional
17 officers patrolling with new vehicles including a 4x4 truck, quads
and motorcycles.
Carlos A. Espinosa G., the Rivas police Chief, who has been wanting
to implement this plan since last August, was clearly delighted with
the commitment from the developers by way of much needed donations.
