Crowds of Nicaragüenses enjoyed their annual beach vacation in San Juan del Sur last month. The Municipality showcased its ability to organize a safe and well planned event as this concentrated vacation went off fairly trouble free (compared to some parts of the country) despite the huge crowds.

The Beach Road was “Party Central” supplying vacationers with anything they needed from cold beer to a cold shower. Food vendors satisfied the hungry with fried chicken and pizza as well as more typical Nicaraguan dishes. The action was provided by numerous temporary bars, a couple of discos and the main event stage for the Saturday night concert which was set up on the dock at the end of the road. All week, a bevy of scantily clad girls promoted anything from phones and rum to local and import beer. One of the best beach events was the season finale of the 2008 Beach Volleyball Tour providing local flavor with the duos of Heydi Rostrán-Heidy Traña (female) and Winston Castrate-Francisco Calderón (male) both pairs going unbeaten at 7 – 0.
