For most of us, the biggest single purchase in life is a home, second would be our dream vehicle. For Gary Fenton, from Alaska, his home was his dream vehicle and it was going to be the major part of his future business plan. However, both dreams are now gone.

Gary left his 46 ft Cal Sail Boat “Seaya” in San Juan del Sur harbour while he went back to the States for a trip. The boat went missing almost right away.
Gary returned to San Juan after 4 weeks to be told that the harbor authorities tried to get hold of him but couldn’t. As a result, nothing was done until he got back to officially report the boat stolen. By that time, the trail (if there ever was one) was cold.

He had rented a buoy in the harbor and had arranged for someone to check on the boat every few days. This person first noticed that the boat had gone and the mooring line had been cut (“not frayed, as in drifted away”). Gary now knows that he should have had a night watchman on the boat and also knows he should have had a much better emergency contact plan in place, but he didn’t. He expected his property to be where he left it.

So sadly for Gary it’s “SEA YA” to his boat and “SEA YA” to his business plan which was to take the boat over to Lake Nicaragua (Colcibolca) and run a sail boat charter out of Ometepe. “I had hotels and businesses all lined up ready for me to start” said Gary.

If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of this boat, please contact Gary on 446-6452, Del Sur 854-0675. (En For service in Spanish – 854-0674 or 505-839-7202). It would be nice to give this sad story a happy ending.
