Together, many people have made a huge difference to this community. Many of the community projects have become an everyday part of life here. For example, the children in their smart new school uniforms made possible by funding from the Jean Brugger Foundation and the team of of Sanjuanenos working away sewing them together.

Community teamwork is often one half of the team providing the finance with the other half building sweat equity.

Then there are the fundraising events that now form part of the regular social calendar here in San Juan del Sur. Together we have raised money for numerous needs from clinics through pre-schools to animal rescue by having fun as a community at a cause-related event.

Together we have built the beach clean up program so that we now clean several beaches, not just one. Together, local businesses supported an army of Sanjuanenos who laboured to clean up El Oro. Together, with perseverance, goodwill and donations (and a lot of gnashing of teeth) we built a basketball and soccer arena, and a new park and playground.

That’s what a community does, it builds things together. A close knit community with no one person standing out in front and no Sanjuaneno left standing behind. A community to be envied and a community to be used as a model.

Between the Sanjuanenos and the Ex - Pat community, we have enough financing, knowledge, skills and experience to build anything we need for the community and to help staff, train and manage it.

Over the next few weeks, the Police Plan will begin to be made public. I ask that you don’t dismiss anything out of hand. Think about it, think about the alternative and think about how you can help with Finance, Skills and Experience. We can’t do this alone. But, “Together We Can”
