The seminary was designed to improve the officer’s knowledge of the area as it relates to tourism and to help them understand the needs of tourists from a personal security and information point of view.

Commissioner David Jarquín (Rivas) said that the Officers will be posted to beach communities within the area policed out of Rivas. These include; San Juan del Sur, Tola, San Jorge and Buenos Aires as well as Altagracia and Moyogalpa, two of the largest towns on Ometepe Island.

The 40 Officers will wear the regular Policia Nacional uniform with the addition of identification as “Tourist Police” on the back of the shirt as well as one of the sleeve badges and the pants will have a light blue stripe down the seam. Twenty sets of uniform have been provided by the Policia Nacional and twenty INTUR.
