“It’s Now or Never”
Elvis made the tune to the Neapolitan classic, “O Sole Mio” (My Sun) even more famous, but here in San Juan it was the restaurant named after the Italian version that enjoyed the fame for many years. The sun may have gone down, so to speak, but at “sunrise” we should be looking at a transformed bar /restaurant making full use of the beachfront garden. Marie Mendel (Ricardo’s Bar) will be back and behind the wood. Look for a soft opening around Easter.

“Chica Brava”
One “Brave Girl” has opened up an all-girls surf camp in San Juan del Sur.
Ashley Blaylock, owner, operator and creator of ChicaBrava is the 2007 Female National Surf Champion. As well as surfing, ChicaBrava offers massage therapy, yoga, horseback riding, nature and canopy tours, and visits in an around SJdS. Visit: www.chicabrava.com

City Hall on the Move
This past Monday, the offices of the Alcaldia began the big move into their new offices at the Centro Civico (Civic Centre) at the entrance to the Chocolate Road on the way into town. The two storey building has been refurbished and will be a larger and more comfortable space than the existing over capacity building.

The Road
Talking of re-naming things. Dubbed “Avenida D’Ortega” by some joker with a bunch of stickers, the road to La Virgen and the Pan American Highway is a go. Temporary bridges are currently being built to take diverted traffic around the construction sites of the new and improved river crossings. Eight months is still the projected time frame for completion of the new road so don’t throw away the neck brace just yet!

Marsella Valley?
It rolls off the tongue nicely and sounds
Grand. But where is it? Actually it’s a name currently being banded around to describe the area north on the Chocolate Road around the Maderas and Marsella areas. Certain developers are hoping this new name catches on. Why not? It worked for the Napa Valley in California and the Hunter Valley in Australia to name but a couple.

Storm Water
The Alcaldia is trying to solve the storm water run off issue around the Avenida Mercado area. A large underground storm water system is being built from the drainage ditch in front of the Joxi, all the way up the street east to the market.

Casa Mural
The not so brightly painted house on the corner by the park that was going to be a tour office has now been rented. Sounds like its going to be a bit of a “Casa Toda” with a few different goods and services being offered all under one roof including Real Estate, Gifts, and Tours etc.

“Eh Vinny, Whaddya Know?”
This one really is just a rumour, but someone did tell someone, who told someone else that a new “Authentic Italian Restaurant” is coming to San Juan. Any newshounds know more? Or shall I just “Forget about it”

Remember These Guys?
Feral Green, The Supersized “Fry Truck” that visited San Juan late last year is now in Ecuador. Looks like they made a few crew changes on the way through Costa Rica, Panama and then having the vehicle shipped to Columbia (there is no road to Columbia from Panama) to continue their journey. www.feralgreen.com
