The result of that forum could well be the first “Blockwatch Program” in Nicaragua. A lively discussion took place with each participant outlining his or her individual issues relating to crime in the area. Numerous suggestions were noted and an action plan was outlined. The group is working on the next stage which is to produce a proposal that will include liaison with other homes and business owners, the Mayors Office and the Policia Nacional.

For obvious reasons, the exact nature of the proposed plan and its deterrents will not be revealed, However; the message from the group was clear, anyone thinking that the Playa Maderas area is an “easy touch” may be sadly mistaken.
