Denny and Leslie at Finca Caballo Pinto have been raising iguanas on their farm for two years. The goal of this ecologically friendly project has been to repopulate the immediate area with iguanas whose wild population has been reduced drastically through poaching. Iguanas are eaten in large numbers and considered a delicacy.

In January Finca Caballo Pinto began releasing 7-month old young iguanas at strategic locations of the farm. As of mid-January 25 youngsters have been returned to the wild and there have been numerous sightings of the freed iguanas near farm headquarters. Denny estimates that 100 iguanas will be released over the next couple of weeks.
