continued from san juan del sur HOME Comunidad Connect and San Juan del Sur’s very first official futbol sala (arena soccer) season ended on December 14th with a ”best of three” series decided in game 3 with over 600 fans watching. Real San Juan needed overtime to beat Rio Escondido 7-4 to take the Championship The league started with 13 teams from virtually all barrios of San
Juan del Sur. That's about 200 players, coaches, refs, and statisticians.
We've kept record of every game and will be presenting trophies for
the top three finishers, MVP, and the Buena Onda Award will be proudly
presented by Finca Las Nubes to the team, player or fan who exhibited
the best sportsmanship A big Thank You to all of you who have supported the Sports Park, every contribution made a huge difference. Special mentions go to: Seahorse Tropics , who contributed through the advertising campaign and sponsored many of the teams' uniforms. The St. Hilaire Foundation for the construction of the new bathroom facilities. Nica Dev and Morgan’s Rock helped purchase our public announcement system, Travis Knight raised enough to donate the basketball goals, and Luis Carcamo, a local welder, was kind enough to donate countless hours to get them installed. Frank Ruiz, Director of Physical Education and Vice- President of COMUDEP, also volunteered his time announcing at every game. It was his untiring voice who mentioned nightly every sponsor, including El Timon Restaurant, RE/Max Horizons, STEMONSA, Century 21, Pelican Eyes…Piedras y Olas Hotel & Resort & Fundacion A. Jean Brugger, Brisas de Palermo, and other local businesses that contributed hot meals to our volunteers and staff. Last but not least, I’d like to recognize the Mayor's office and the Municipal Sports Commission- two other incredible sources of ongoing support- thank you Eduardo Holmann and Cesar Guadamuz. Coming Up For those of you who are still waiting for the right time to get involved, NOW IS A GREAT TIME! 2008 will be an exciting year for the Sports Park with regional and national events coming from an improved alliance with the municipal tourism commission (COTUR) and the National Sports Institute (IND). We will begin the basketball season in January, which means we will
be helping teams find local sponsors, raise funds for training of local
referees and buying equipment. However, the biggest expense is the ongoing
administration of the Sports Park. You can have a direct effect by sponsoring
a sports league, participating in the Advertising Campaign, or making
a designated gift to the Sports Park through Plans are also under way to include a miniature skate park and tennis programs so be on the look-out for Sports Park updates in Del Sur for more information. To the community of San Juan del Sur: Thank you all for who you are and what you are doing to support youth, sports, and culture at the San Juan del Sur Sports Park. Please let us know how the Sports Park can be a better resource for you. Jon Thompson Tel: 408-3376
