continued from san juan del sur HOME The new high season for tourism is under way and San Juan del Sur is ready. Some new hotels, as well as new and renovated bars and restaurants and tourist related services have added to the variety of choices SJdS can offer the traveler. The town truly offers accommodations something for every class of visitor, from hostels for backpackers on a limited budget, to hotel rooms at every level up to and including resorts with their own pools, restaurants and services. Road construction is underway, the 19 kilometer stretch of road from La Virgen to SJdS is in the process of being totally re built. As well, Palli, the WalMart owned grocery chain is currently building a store on the edge of town. News of the proposed water pumping and treatment facility, using water from lake Nicaragua as well as the continued planning and discussions relative to the Coastal Highway) are all positive indictors that despite some of this countries difficulties, Nicaragua is very much committed to developing and sustaining tourism growth. The recent announcements that the scheduled power outages will soon be over is another example of how problems are being addressed. Yes, there was some suffering during the blackouts with restaurants, hotels and bars trying to provide services, However; it was a short term pain for hopefully a long term gain. Kelvin Marshall |
