Fish and cut ribbons The brand new 12 million dollar fish terminal, on the dock of San Juan del Sur, is now open for business and for the benefit of local fishermen. Tons of rock were removed from a cliff and dumped in the harbor to “reclaim” the land where the facility now stands. The Vice President of the Republic of Nicaragua President, Lic. Jaime Morales Carazo was on hand for the opening as well as The Japanese Ambassador to Nicaragua, Mr. Shinishi Saito and the Mayor of San Juan Del Sur, Eduardo Holmann Chamorro. During the Ambassadors speech, he said that Japan believed Nicaragua had great potential in the fishing industry and they had invested in this project in order that the local fisherman can increase volumes and productivity. He also urged the operators of the facility to look after it so that it can benefit San Juan del Sur for a long time. The Mayor of San Juan Del Sur, Eduardo Hollmann, reminded the assembled crowd that SJdS had a long history of fishing, even before it became a port and later a tourist destination.
