The Route of the Central American Torch

In September Nicaragua celebrated its independence. On September 14th, it was the celebration of the "Battle of San Jacinto (1856)" and on September 15th it was the official Independence Day of Central America (1821). The students and athletes of Nicaragua carried the “Central American Torch” leaving from Guatemala City to cross all of the Central American Isthmus, finishing up in Costa Rica.

On September 12th, the Central American torch arrived in Nicaragua from Honduras and it was carried across the country by students from diverse schools and high schools.

On September 13th, at Ochomogo's bridge, it was handed over to students from the department of Rivas. The torch then continued on its route down the Pan-American Highway to Rivas and on to the town of La Virgen where it was picked up by students from San Juan del Sur and carried to the border of Costa Rica.

A total of 180 students representing our Municipality, San Juan del Sur, participated in the journey of the torch. The participating schools were: The High School Emmanuel Mongalo y Rubio, Stella Maris Catholic School and High School, School Centre Emmanuel Mongalo y Rubio .

This activity was supported in San Juan del Sur by Municipal Government through Ing. Eduardo Holmann Ch.
