Felipa Lugo is the mother of Heidy & Helen Traña who were both selected to play for “Team Nicaragua” against Concordia and Vanguard University Volleyball teams from Orange County, California, who recently visited San Juan Del Sur.

Felipa, born right here in San Juan del Sur, has operated Las Lugo Seafood restaurant for the last 35 years. She also found time to raise 5 children, two boys and one girl as well as Heidy and Helen.

Helen, 29, is a Lawyer at the University of Central America and is studying English. Heidy, 22, is a Computer Systems Engineer and between that and volleyball she also is studying English. Felipas other daughter works for BDF (Bank) in Managua and her two sons have a transport business.

Felipa recalls a time when the local fishermen caught heaps of fish. Now she says “It’s getting harder and harder for them. It’s been happening for the last 3 years, they can only go out so far in those small pangas”. She added, “I have been lucky with my business,
San Juan has grown and the tourists really help.”
