continued from san juan del sur HOME Editorial The local district of the Policia Nacional, (The National Police Force) appears to be seriously underfunded, particularly when one considers how important this town and surrounding area is to the future growth of tourism and investment in this country. Yes, there are some areas that are equally important; Healthcare, Education, Water and Electricity all need more financing. However; the security of people and property is every bit as important. All of these issues fall under the category of “you either pay now or pay later”. Generally, paying later is more expensive. This country has been described as one of the safest countries for travelers. The plan unveiled by the Policia Nacional will help keep it that way. If not, SJDS might “pay later” in terms of a reduction in the growth of tourism and investment. That would be a huge price to pay compared with the cost of paying now and implementing the plan proposed by the Chief of the Rivas Department of the Policia Nacional, Carlos A. Espinosa G. This plan needs input, further discussion and exploration of some of the ways in which we can help fund (directly or indirectly) and therefore successfully implement the proposed Municipal Security Plan.
