continued from san juan del sur HOME Galeria del Sur An artist, a lawyer and two realtors were talking . . . Is this the start of a joke? No, this was the start of a series of conversations that led to one of most generous personal donations to Fundación A. Jean Brugger, and to San Juan del Sur. As a result, SJdS now has its first art gallery, displaying original works by Nicaraguan artists from Rivas, Managua and also local artists from in and around San Juan del Sur.
The gallery is in the bright yellow building on the west side, half way between the market and the park, and was donated by the Quinn family from Colorado. Barry Oliver and David Brownlee of Century 21 put their Project Management Team to work, led by Joey Mintz, and almost totally reconstructed the existing building. Proceeds of the art sales will help support the projects sponsored by the Fundación A. Jean Brugger, including the school uniform program. At the back of the gallery is a tastefully designed private courtyard which, in the future, will hold photo and art workshops, children’s classes, theatre performances, or will be available to rent for special functions.
